Forget it! Learn to code (if you can’t already) and get on with acquiring customers. That was my mistake last time around. I wasn’t proficient enough to code and I was obsessed with getting funders to be interested, taking anything that came my way. Smart money? Nope!

There is no substitute for a pitch that says, “I have customers, and these are the acquisition metrics”. Case closed.

I realized this time that I don’t have the time to attend these events, the money to buy the tickets and travel, nor the inclination to ‘shoot the shit’ with investors who want to rape my brain, insult me and ultimately say ‘No’.

And the funny part…if you keep your head down and get on with it, they’ll find you anyway.

Twelve Moons by Jan Garbarek Gorgeous piece of music. shared...

Twelve Moons by Jan Garbarek

Gorgeous piece of music.

shared from exfm

Reminds me of past board meetings.

Reminds me of past board meetings.

Danmark's Radio P1 interview on startup failure

Denmark labels software startups that fail as a pariah when they don’t get to revenue before folding.
Will the pendulum swing to bring the social support system within reach of entrepreneurs who are taking a gamble on their future to meet the Danish government’s wish to have startups and small businesses as the engine of recovery.

It has all the bells and whistles we need for better washing results. At least for the moment.

What was so inadequate about its predecessor that we need a control panel with more chip power than Apollo 13? (Actually it finally died last week after 12 years). We only ever used one program anyway.

The new one has settings I’ll never use either. It has a 6th Sense (at least it flashes that it does), as well as green and red flashing lights and an almost imperceptible whine when it spins. The family all stood around to watch the commemorative launch. Well, most of us did until it became obvious the interface was not quite as intuitive as it appeared. Apparently, 6th Sense tells me how much washing liquid we need to use, depending on the weight and distribution of contents. It took twenty minutes to figure out the most basic of settings and that same setting has been used for every wash that has followed this past week. I’ll only ever use one setting from now on.

When I’m not figuring out the simplest and easiest way to get things done around the house, in the car, or just going about my daily life, I am building web applications. I build web applications for users who share the common denominators of short attention span, various educational backgrounds, fat thumbs and no will to pay for anything. They need simple, simple, simple.

I have vowed never to complicate the interface. I’ll offer no more choices than are necessary to get the job done. Why use two buttons when one will do just as well? What app needs ‘user settings’ input with fat thumbs when the data can be pulled from numerous other repositories during authentication? Complicated (read sophisticated) ‘enhancements’ don’t enrich the value of the data I collect, nor do they leave the user any happier than before they fired up the app on their smartphone. They want to get in and get on to the next one before the traffic light turns green.

Why is it so F***king difficult to simplify?

What is it about the word 'NO' you don't understand?

NO: I will not open my LinkedIn connections for you to ‘rape’ my contacts.

We’ve found the user community. We’ve found the customers. We know where the revenue will arise. So let’s get back to the code.
